All we have to do to remember how high God’s love for us reaches is to simply look up. Up, to see the expanse between the ground and the clouds. He doesn’t write the answers to our questions out in thin air, but he gives us a passage to remind us that he’s got his reasons…
Isaiah 55
5“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.
11 It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
12 You will live in joy and peace.
The mountains and hills will burst into song,
and the trees of the field will clap their hands!
13 Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow.
Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up.
These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name;
they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”
We can’t understand or see his plan, working together for our good, but we can choose to trust that his perfect love for us knows what he is doing.
For my letter to God today, I chose to illustrate the concepts to give a deeper understanding and ability to memorize it easily.
Illustrating is a popular concept for college students studying any subject these days. On Pinterest, there are tons of links to ideas for illustrating information for the sake of understanding and retaining it. I have been doing this with my bible studying for awhile now, just simply sketching out doodles that show God’s word in a personal way. Here, I used “anchor” illustrations for this passage to remember the meaning behind the words so that I can apply it to my thinking and my life.
Anchors:
Think cloud: God’s thoughts higher than mine.
Arrows: God’s ways go far beyond what I can see in either direction, past present, or future.
Rainbow: God’s good plans surpass anything I can IMAGINE.
Airplane banners: I think of banners the planes pull at the beach, with God’s message, “I know what I’m doing, trust me,” written on them. 🙂
The earth: My understanding of all situations is far below and skewed compared to his clear view from above, of all the pieces of the puzzle fitting together according to his perfect plan.
After grasping how HIGH his perfectly understanding love is for us, we have a choice, to trust Him or not. This is where we come before him honestly in prayer, committing to trusting him, and asking him to meet us in our doubts and fears. Asking him to create faith where we want to be the one in the pilot’s seat, flying the plane with our own banner of plans streaming behind us.
He is good and worthy to be trusted. Our understanding is so small compared to his. Simply trust.
