“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
It’s day two of MIND week as we grow in loving the LORD with “ALL of Me.” Today we are focusing in on loving the LORD with all of our mind by using a filter for our thoughts.
In his letter to the believers in Philippi, the missionary Paul encourages them with this very real advice on how to have the peace of God rule their thought life.
He tells them to:
- Be anxious for nothing.
- Thank God for what He has done.
- Ask Him for what you need.
- Put all your thoughts through the 8 word test.
1-4 amazingly simply in theory, but take training to actually live out. We tend to not even see what God has done, and rush to what we need next.
I’m guilty of this sisters. The praises I should be shouting at the rooftops giving God glory and credit for lay unannounced and I just rush to the next thing I “need” instead. Oh how thankful I am for His grace and His goodness to point out this destructive pattern that steals the peace that is mine in Him.
Do you see yourself doing this too, sister? Do you become anxious and not even realize all the things God has done for you before becoming anxious about what you need? God is so generous and so active and always working on our behalf. Let’s make it a point to see what He’s has done for us before than ask Him to do for us this week. But then, let’s go right to Him with anything we feel we “need” and have faith that He will respond again because He is a good Father!
Last, Paul tells the believers to only think on things that pass the 8 word test.
Only think on whatever is:
TRUE
HONORABLE
JUST
PURE
LOVELY
COMMENABLE
EXCELLENCE
WORTHY OF PRAISE
This test really narrows what which thoughts we should be entertaining!
Remember, this is for our good. God loves you so much and wants you to experience His peace that passes this world’s understanding. Let’s meditate on this list, this scripture today and see what God shows us we need to clear out of our minds as we fill our mind with His Word.
May we love Him with more of our minds today by putting our thoughts through this test. ❤
