Taking Every Thought Captive

Uncategorized

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5

What we think is powerful. Our heart can be in the right place, desiring to live a life exuding the love of Christ, but our mind can mess everything up, am I right?

We do have an enemy. He is the father of lies. He likes to whisper encouragement to mess up your life in all the destructive ways.

BUT WE HAVE A FATHER WHO HAS GIVEN US WEAPONS MORE POWERFUL THAN STUPID LIES WHISPERED IN DARKNESS.

The weapon our Father has given us is His Word. His word is power and it enables us to do the very thing the verse above suggests, to take every thought captive to obey Christ. Our mind is a beautiful, but complex thing. We can reason our way into disobeying God and act in ways that are not led by His Spirit. We need our “tools ready” as The Message Paraphrase states below:

“We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.” 2 Corinthians 10:6 MSG

So let’s get our “tools” ready, sisters.

  1. Pinpoint a stronghold or area of danger in your life.

     2. What is the lie you are believing here?

      3. What is the weapon from the Word to battle it?

Memorize and post the weapons around you so that they are ready and at hand for the time when you are tempted to act from a lie in your mind. Speak His Word aloud. Pray His Word.

The Word weapon will help you take the thought captive, and obey the Word, which is obeying Christ, because He is the Word made flesh.

He is so good to equip us with what we need for loving Him with All of our Mind!

Loving the LORD with your THOUGHTS

Uncategorized

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

It’s day two of MIND week as we grow in loving the LORD with “ALL of Me.” Today we are focusing in on loving the LORD with all of our mind by using a filter for our thoughts.

In his letter to the believers in Philippi, the missionary Paul encourages them with this very real advice on how to have the peace of God rule their thought life.

He tells them to:

  1. Be anxious for nothing.
  2. Thank God for what He has done.
  3. Ask Him for what you need.
  4. Put all your thoughts through the 8 word test.

1-4 amazingly simply in theory, but take training to actually live out. We tend to not even see what God has done, and rush to what we need next.

I’m guilty of this sisters. The praises I should be shouting at the rooftops giving God glory and credit for lay unannounced and I just rush to the next  thing I “need” instead. Oh how thankful I am for His grace and His goodness to point out this destructive pattern that steals the peace that is mine in Him.

Do you see yourself doing this too, sister? Do you become anxious and not even realize all the things God has done for you before becoming anxious about what you need? God is so generous and so active and always working on our behalf. Let’s make it a point to see what He’s has done for us before than ask Him to do for us this week. But then, let’s go right to Him with anything we feel we “need” and have faith that He will respond again because He is a good Father!

Last, Paul tells the believers to only think on things that pass the 8 word test.

Only think on whatever is:

TRUE

HONORABLE

JUST

PURE

LOVELY

COMMENABLE

EXCELLENCE

WORTHY OF PRAISE

This test really narrows what which thoughts we should be entertaining!

Remember, this is for our good. God loves you so much and wants you to experience His peace that passes this world’s understanding. Let’s meditate on this list, this scripture today and see what God shows us we need to clear out of our minds as we fill our mind with His Word.

May we love Him with more of our minds today by putting our thoughts through this test. ❤

Loving the LORD with all my MIND

Uncategorized

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

This week we will be focusing on loving the Lord with all of our MIND.

This verse holds the key to all peace – it’s not to focus on our problems, our sins, our to do lists, but rather, to keep our mind on the LORD.

How do we do this once the pitter patter of little feet rush through our living room in the morning? Or once we are at work and their are a million things on our clipboards waiting to be checked off?

We think with our minds staying on the Lord.

Here are two ways to keep our MIND on the LORD:

  1. WE pray constantly- We are always in communication with Father even in the midst of our everyday workload.

“Father, thank you for this little child you’ve given me to raise.”

“Father, I have so much to do, help me get this one at the top checked off right now, and to do it with grace.”

2. We meditate on his word.

We fill our mind with scripture because He is the Word made flesh.

The Message Paraphrase of this passage explains peace as “complete wholeness.’

“People with their minds set on you,
    you keep completely whole,
Steady on their feet,
because they keep at it and don’t quit.
Depend on God and keep at it
because in the Lord God you have a sure thing.”

Wouldn’t it feel amazing to stay completely whole this week? Our wholeness comes from beholding the Lord. He keeps us steady. Let’s depend on Him this week to keep at whatever tasks He’s given us to do while all the time looking to Him, in constant communincation with Him sparked from discussions centered in His Word.

Praying we love Him with more our our Minds this week!

Loving God by Believing His Promises

Uncategorized

“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,” Hebrews 6:19

What’s something you have waited a long time for? Maybe in actuality, it wasn’t a long time, but it felt like an eternity.

Some of my waiting rooms were: conceiving our first child (2 years), and waiting in Africa for paperwork while adopting our daughter (3 months).

These were places God had clearly given us desires to go to, but when we got there, we had to WAIT. We had to scour his WORD and hold tightly to his unwavering promises in the wait. We needed an anchor to stay the course. To keep believing.

His Word is our anchor.

When we just don’t feel like waiting.

We just don’t feel like being obedient.

We just don’t feel like staying right where God has placed us and riding out the waves.

This is what Abraham did a few verses prior in this chapter:

And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.” Hebrews 6:15

I don’t know what promise you’re clinging to, asking the Lord to fulfill.

But I know we can trust Him because He has already completed the greatest promise.

He sent Jesus and completed our way to salvation. We have Him as our anchor. We can always look to the cross and know that we can stay anchored right where we are, with our eyes fixed on Jesus because it is finished.

I hope that encourages you as much as it does me! Praying we all walk into the weekend loving him with more of our SOULS.

Monday we start focusing on Loving the LORD with ALL of our MIND! It’s going to be so powerful, don’t miss it!

Loving the LORD with FOREVER

Uncategorized

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.””

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Today we consider if we are embracing our future life in heaven- to Love Him with more of our SOUL.

Do you think much about heaven? I admit, I get caught up in the day to day and don’t think about it as often as I should.

The verse above reminds us that heaven is going to be better than we could imagine! Let’s engage personally in it by answering the questions below.

What’s the most beautiful thing your eyes have seen?

What’s the most beautiful thing your ears have heard?

What is your description of heaven from what you’ve learned from His Word?

The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen… this is hard. I’ve seen some beautiful, breathtaking sights. The safari plains in Africa, the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean in Northern California, the sunrise over the Atlantic, the fall masterpiece in the Blue Ridge mountains of my homestate. I could go on & on!

… the bluest eyes and baby thick cheeks of my first born, silky strawberry blonde hair of my second, and radiant chocolate skin of my third.

…locking eyes with the the brownish gold irises of the love of my life in a chaotic room…

I just can’t pick.

The most beautiful sound…the first time my boy said “mama,” the first cry of my princess who came out purple, the accent of my third who is slowly sounding like a country bumpkin now.

…the strum of my husband’s guitar and his voice when he plays a 90’s love song over and over…

What my mind imagines of heaven…pure joy. Gates layered with twelve precious jewels, streets of gold, and the One who I’ve known but now seen with my eyes… there at the center of it all, no sun but THE SON seated on his throne. He shows me the place He has gone to prepare for me in our Father’s house and I know fully all the mysteries I’ve wondered about as I take his nail scarred hand in mine and He welcomes me home.

IT’S so much better than this, ladies. Better than we could imagine. Let’s love God with more of our SOUL by living in anticipation of our FOREVER WITH HIM!!!
