Treasure in Heaven – All of My Heart: Day 3

Uncategorized

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Luke 12:34

Once upon a time, there was. an orphan girl whose future was bleak. She knew it too, and she found herself hopeless, knowing she couldn’t change her predicament unless someone greater than herself would show her kindness.

Along came the king of the land, and instead of passing by this needy young girl, he stopped the royal procession. He saw straight to her heart, all her needs were obvious to him. And unlike many other rulers, he cared. He was deeply moved and loved her from the moment he saw her.

He invited her to come and live in the palace with Him and his family; not as a subject, but as a fully adopted daughter. The girl went from being a destitute orphan to a princess instantly, all because of the compassion of the King.

Obviously, the newfound princess became totally invested in the Kingdom of the outrageously loving Father. She quickly realized this was not a stepdaughter, Cinderella deal. She was seated at the head table with the King, served the same meals he ate, and adorned with a beautiful headdress where ashes of mourning used to rest.

The daughter quickly asked what she could do personally with all the riches she had been given. She remembered all of the hurting and hungry orphans she used to roam the streets with, lost and looking for real food to eat. She sincerely wanted to share her father’s compassion and endless riches, and she knew He had a supply that would never run out.

So she set to work, always asking her Father for his wisdom and direction on how to work out this vision for the needy in the land. Though he was busy, he was always available to impart his insight, and she was always blown away by the depth of his direction. She made some mistakes, but every time, her father forgave her and saw her heart was pure and desiring to build her father’s kingdom in love.

The King was diligent in guarding the work his daughter was doing with his soldiers. No thief or power was able to overcome her plans. The people whom she was touching with her father’s riches were forever changed and fell in love with her father, the King as they saw he was a good ruler, worthy of their adoration and respect.

This is your story, daughter.

Adopted by the King of Kings.

Adorned with His Endless riches.

Moved to reach out and invest His love in the Kingdom, knowing the Father is guarding this work with powers stronger than the darkness.

What’s stopping you from building His Kingdom and storing treasure that won’t fade?

Are you operating in the riches of your Father? Or are you stuck believing you have to provide for yourself?

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Luke 12:32-34

What if you could ask Jesus what the most important thing is?

Wouldn’t it simplify your life? Wouldn’t it help you narrow your focus, time and energy?

Wouldn’t it help you truly live?

I’ve got good news, sisters! He has answered this question already in His Word, and His answer is just as much for us today as it was for those who asked it when he walked the earth.

Here’s the Story:

One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.”  Mark 12:28-31

Love the Lord with ALL of your HEART, SOUL, MIND, and STRENGTH

But how? What does that mean in real life?

This is a question I’ve been asking myself for years, so I sat down searched His Word for direction, put it into a devotional format, and I want to journey through it with you!

Tell me about the Study!

It’s a four week study

A PURE HEART: Day 2 of “ALL of ME”

Uncategorized

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8

What if God had some sort of Lasik eye surgery for our hearts, so that we could see Him more clearly? Because we know, if we can see Him more clearly we will continue on this journey of loving Him with more of our hearts.

Good news, He does! We find many passages in scripture to run to when we need our hearts cleansed. Here’s one:

Psalm 51: 7-12

7Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Did you see that, sisters? the psalmist lets us in on a secret here…

IT’S THE LORD WHO PURIFIES OUR HEARTS.

With the heart of a loving, perfect father, laid bare before him, we ask Him

to BLOT OUT

WASH

CLEANSE

TEACH

PURGE

CREATE

RENEW

RESTORE

and UPHOLD us.

Pick the word that most speaks to you above insert it in the sentence below. Let this be your prayer for a purer heart to see and love him more.

Lord, _______________________ my heart. By the blood of Jesus I come. Amen.

He is so faithful. Only a HOLY God can purify a human heart to be able to see a Him for who He really is:

GOOD

STEADFAST

ABUNDANT in MERCY.

BETTER THAN ANY WORDS.

SO GOOD.

Praying for you, sweet sisters!

Loving Him with MORE of our HEARTS by evaluating our treasure is tomorrow!

All of My Heart, Day 1: Underneath the Facade: Loved Deeply

Uncategorized

I have it all together as I head into this new week. My house is clean. All the clothes are folded nicely and in their drawers, our healthy meal plan is posted in the kitchen, and there is a smile on my face.

Sike! Or… maybe if you’re a domestic diva, this is you. Whether we look like we have it all together or not, doesn’t matter. You see, we were made for more than what’s skin deep. We were made for what’s going on inside, at the heart level.

When Jesus answered what the greatest commandment was, he started with the heart. He wants us to love him from the deepest level in us.

Even when the house is a wreck. Even when our marriage feels like a failure. Even when we feel like we are failing as a mother. He doesn’t want us saying, I’m fine. How are you?

He’d rather hear: Jesus, I feel overwhelmed. there’s no hiding with you. You know I feel like I’ve bitten off more than I can chew right now. But I trust you. Please help me keep looking to you for help, wisdom, and love.

I’m taking off my facade in front of you, Lord.

facade: an outward appearance that is maintained to conceal a less pleasant or creditable reality.

Jesus went straight past the outward religious commandments and rituals. He went straight to loving him deeply with the innermost part of us.

He went past the outward appearances of Holy, straight to the inward spaces where Holy streams from: a Holy Heart in Love with God.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

This week, our daily challenge for HEART is to journal to the Lord for 5 minutes first thing, pouring our heart out to Him. This is relationship. This is love.

If you can’t write to Him in a journal, speak to him. Make the conversation with Him priority.

We will be going deeper into loving Him with all of our hearts all week!

God’s Love: Think HIGHER

Uncategorized

God created you to be extraordinary, to fulfill plans you can only imagine in your wildest dreams. His love for you reaches to the heavens, and his plans for you reach that high, too.

We are going to need a confident heart, like David had in the psalm below to keep reaching for these dreams:

Psalm 57

7My heart is confident in you, O God;
my heart is confident.
No wonder I can sing your praises!
8Wake up, my heart!
Wake up, O lyre and harp!
I will wake the dawn with my song.
9I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
I will sing your praises among the nations.
10For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
11Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.
May your glory shine over all the earth.

How high does the love of God reach? Today I want to encourage all of us, his word says it reaches to the clouds.

As I prayed through this verse today, God reminded me of how BIG he is.

He reminded me to dream far up, BIG DREAMS.

He reminded me to REACH for the stars.

I want His GLORY to SHINE over all the earth.
When David pinned these words, he was hiding in the cave from King Saul. God soon sent 400 men to come and fight with him. David could have stayed hidden away, praying small prayers for God to simply keep him hidden and help him live a quiet, safe life in the wilderness.

But God had other plans.

And David knew he had a BIG GOD.

I want to look up into the sky and be reminded that His love and faithfulness are as HIGH as the heavens and REACH to the clouds.

I want to believe he has BIG PLANS for me, because he does.

And he has BIG PLANS for you, too.

Sometimes those plans seem small to us, but they have a large, immeasurable impact in God’s eyes.

After adopting our daughter from Africa, I came to remember that the day to day mothering and homemaking in my home was just as important to God as the orphan rescuing.

What dreams are God stirring in your heart? Is your motive to shine His GLORY over all the earth, and to spread his love? Then pray about it, and go for it!

Keep looking up to the heavens, remembering his high love for you reaches places you cannot imagine!
